Bulk Modulus
Equally acting forces on a body. |
Definition:
" When a body is subjected to the mutually perpendicular like and equal direct stresses, the ratio of direct stress corresponding to the corresponding volumetric strain is found to be a constant for a given material when the deformation is within a certain limit. This ratio is known as bulk modulus and is usually denoted by K "
Mathematically bulk modulus is given by
Formula for Bulk Modulus |
what is certain limit there in bulk modulus?
ReplyDeleteit is the elastic limit, within which body obeys all the relationships between stress and strain.
DeleteEvery material has its own bulk modules which obeys stress strain laws.
ReplyDeleteWii this result valid in tension?
ReplyDeleteyes, when they are mutually perpendicular(for rect. section) and like stresses it is valid in tension also and the change in volume is taken positive, hence the bulk modulus is positive.
