Hooke's Law

Hooke's Law

Hooke's law states that,

"With in the elastic limit, the stress is proportional to the strain produced by the stress. i.e., the ratio of the stress to the corresponding strain is a constant. This constant can be called as 'Modulus of elasticity' (or young's modulus) or 'Modulus of rigidity' based on the nature of the stress."
If the stress is compressive or tensile in nature, it is called as  "MODULUS OF ELASTICITY" or "YOUNG'S MODULUS" and is called as "MODULUS OF RIGIDITY" or "SHEAR MODULUS" if the stress is shear in nature.
